Mr Bone Jangles Slot Machine Game
Mr. Bones Loyal user 261 Posts | 0 Let's see if we can inspire an exchange of knowledge, perhaps some pictures, and maybe even learn something new in the process. It doesn't have to be hard core gambling or hustling related ... just interesting and not often talked about. I'll start: Long ago, here in the forum, a super knowledgable guy known to the Gambling Spot regulars as 'KingStarDog' was a regular poster. Although he was definitely an expert on many things related to gambling and hustling, one side hustle he was particularly knowledgable on was Slot Machine Dice, also known as Jackpot Dice. I don't recall how I became interested in these types of dice games, but it was likely when I discovered that some folks had managed to gaff the dice such that the game would favour the operator. As these dice are traditionally (although not always) thrown from a cup, turning these cubes into whip dice was undertaken as one of the assorted ways this game could be gaffed. KingStarDog (Mike Sanford) was THE expert on Slot Machine/Jackpot Dice, and wrote (as far as I know) the only comprehensive (and somewhat rare) book on the subject, a book that guided me in collecting various versions of the game. Other gaffing methods included loads, which in the absence of 'spots', were placed under the enamelled designs on the dice (the money bag, cherries, bell, etc). There was also a gaffed novelty version called 'Hully Gully', which was essentially a table top juice joint marketed as a 'fun item', but used in bars and clubs rolling for drinks, etc. I've had my collection for a long while now, and some of the items were the result of my searching for them for more than a few years, guided back in the day by Mike via PM here in the forum, and always referencing back to his book, which is literally the bible on these dice games. Here's some pix of my collection, and Mike's book. Click here to view attached image. |

Marlin1894 Special user 565 Posts | 0 Good stuff Bones. KSD was/is a great guy and I hope he's doing well. He helped me out a couple of times. I still run across those Jack-Pot dice sets, as well as Anchor and Crown dice etc. in resale shops and flea markets. They make nice affordable collectibles. Punchboards too. I have some P&T tops, including a fairly rare (as far as I know) juiced blank that I got from KSD. I relocated around this time last year so most of my stuff is still packed away, but when I get a chance I'll look for some of it and post some pics. |

reese Inner circle of Hell 1198 Posts | 0 This is exactly my cup of Joe. I've got tops & rolling logs but would love to get some of these dings. I remember the name 'kingstardog' with affection but can't remember why. Thx for the post. |
Mr. Bones Loyal user 261 Posts | 0 Rolling logs use the same principle as the red/black pencil gaff. Very difficult to spot if you don't know what you're looking for, and excellent for bar bets (but not 100%, so you can't mind paying yourself once and a while!). The spinning tops use a slightly modified gaff from that of the rolling logs and the pencil, and are a bit more difficult to spot for the uneducated eye. Logs and tops 'from the day' used to be not too difficult to get a hold of, but have become pretty difficult in recent years. There were a few contemporary makers of tops and logs, but I haven't seen 'new' offerings for a few years now. Getting your hands on an authentic Red/Black pencil has been pretty hard for quite a while now, and save a few small runs made in home workshops (my own included), I don't believe there have ever been any modern versions of note. |

One of the coin is gaffed so the player is sure to win. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-up http://www.surnateum.org http://www.surnateum.com |

padre rich Special user 544 Posts | 0 In the picture MCCABE AND MRS.MILLER Warren Beatty uses a polished flask as a shiner in the early poker game.this went by most viewers...another wrinkle.i spoke with Rene Aubergenois's daughter.the company arrived in northern ca. to begin shooting.an early unexpected snow made it impossible to film as they intended, spring scenes first, winter snow later.they were forced to reverse the shooting schedule and shoot the last part first until the snow melted.they all lived on location and developed a strong bond among the company.it shows in the finished masterpiece... God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison. |
Cagliostro Inner circle 2462 Posts | 0 @padre rich:sure would be more readable if you could use capital letters and spaces at the beginning of new sentences.as you can see it is somewhat confusing unless this is the new way to write English prose.even if it is maybe in deference to others you could use proper sentence structure and spacing when writing.sure would be helpful and appreciated if you could. |
